Most people relate If I Were A Boy with Beyonce, and well they should. Her video on YouTube has over 80 million views and growing, but Reba has transposed this song down a full step from D# to C# and it makes it a little easier to sing and play at the same time. The Beyonce version requires you to tune your guitar down a half step, while Reba’s has you put a capo on the second fret. The actual writer of the song BC Jean recorded it in the key of E, but has been playing with the guitar tuned down a half step to match the same key as Beyonce sings it in. Here is a link to the If I Were A Boy history on the Wikipedia.com website.
For the Reba version you are gonna be putting a capo on the second fret and then playing the Bminor – G – D – A normally. During the bridge part the chords change to Eminor – G – Bminor – A and end on a G chord, before going back to the verse chord progression. It may seem like a lot for a beginner guitarist, but as you get comfortable with the riffs, it becomes a little simpler.
The timing of the lyrics is a little tricker. So if want to sing and play at the same time you should learn how to play it on your guitar first and then fit in the words second. There is a reason why If I were A Boy is so popular and it will be worth it in the end when have your best version finished.

Remember Capo On The Second Fret !!!!
If I were a (Bm)boy (G) (D) even (A)just for a (Bm)day (G) (D)
(A)I’d roll out of (Bm)bed in the (G)morning and (D)throw on what I (A)wanted and (Bm)go (G) (D)
(A)Drink beer with the (Bm)guys (G) (D) and (A)chase after (Bm)girls (G) (D) (A)
I’d (Bm)kick it with who I (G)wanted and I’d (D)never get con-(A)fronted for it
(Bm) ‘Cause they (G)stick up for me (D)
If (A)I were a (Bm)boy, (G) (D) I think I (A)could under-(Bm)stand (G) (D) (A)o,
How it (Bm)feels to love a (G)girl, I (D)swear I’d be a (A)better (Bm)man (G) (D)
And I’d (A)listen to (Bm)her, (G) (D) ’cause I (A)know how (Bm)it hurts (G) (D) (A)
When you (Bm)lose the one (G)you wanted, ’cause he’s (D)takin’ you (A)for granted
And (G)everything you had got destroyed
If I were a (Bm)boy, (G) (D) I would (A)turn off my (Bm)phone (G) (D) (A)
Tell (Bm)everyone it’s (G)broken, so they’d (D)think that I was (A)sleepin’ alone (Bm) (G) (D)
I’d (A)put myself (Bm)first (G) (D) and make the (A)rules as I (Bm)go (G) (D) (A)
‘Cause I (Bm)know that she’ll be (G)faithful, (D)waitin’ for me (A) to come home,
(Bm) (G) to come home (D)
And if (A)I were a (Bm)boy, (G) (D) I think I (A)could under-(Bm)stand (G) (D) (A)
How it (Bm)feels to love a (G)girl, I (D)swear I’d be a (A) better (Bm)man (G) (D)
And I’d (A)listen to (Bm)her, (G) (D) ’cause I (A)know how (Bm)it hurts (G) (D) (A)
When you (Bm)lose the one you (G)wanted, ’cause he’s (D)takin’ you for (A)granted
And (G)everything you had got de-(D)stroyed
(Em) It’s a (G)little too (Bm)late for (A)you to come (Em)back
Say it’s (G)just a mistake, (Bm) think I’d for (A)give you like that
(Em) If you (G)thought I would (Bm)wait for (A)you, you thought wrong (G)
But you’re just a (Bm)boy, (G) (D) you (A)don’t under-(Bm)stand, you (G)don’t under-(D)stand (A)
Oh, how it (Bm)feels to love a (G)girl someday, you (D)wish you were a (A)better (Bm)man (G)
(D) Oh, you (A)don’t listen to (Bm)her, (G) (D) and you don’t (A)care how it (Bm)hurts (G) (D) (A)
Until you (Bm)lose the one you (G)wanted, ’cause you’re (D)takin’ her for (A)granted
And (G)everything you had got destroyed
But you’re just a boy (Bm) (G) (D) (A)
