Since the time that Lenny Kravitz has been making music it seems that he just knows how to write a great song. Lady is a great song for the beggining guitarist because of the barre chord structure. When you jam along to the music it becomes easier each time to get a feel for the timing. “Lady” was thought to be in reference to the girl he was dating at the time, actress Nicole Kidman.

Lenny actually shows you in the video the barre chords he is using. This will help give you confidence that the chords are right, and with the simple structure this is a great beginner guitar song. The song is great little rocker and can bebe played solo or in a band. This may not be his biggest hit, but Lenny Kravitz is considered to be one of the sexiest pop singers, and you know the girls will love it.

If you want to play a little lead along with the riff, you can use the E minor pentatonic scale.

Fade Into You was a top 5 single for the California based band Mazzy Star in 1994, and has a very eerie and meloncholy feel between all of the reverb from the amps, and the slide guitar that brings a haunting melody, this is the launching pad for the mellow singing of Hope Sandoval.

The chord pattern is very simple, and is another great song for a beginning guitarist. If you are a singer, then this would be a great match between an acoustic guitar and a vocalist.

Once again it is proven over and over in the popular music genre, all you need is a simple riff and the right amount of fill in instruments to complete the sound to have a hit song. Of cource having a singer that can write lyrics that match the melody, and being able to stay in key is important, but when you sing from the heart and feel the emotion that the music expresses, it can make you a popular artist.

Most of the chords from Fade Into You are played over and over, and once you get the rhythym of A – E – B minor progression, it becomes easy to stay in the pocket of the timing. There also is a D chord that is put in as a type of bridge to let you know when to start the verse all over again.

The slide is playing along in the with chords in the same key, and you can just barre your finger to play along with out the slide to get a feel for the timing of the notes the slide is playing.

When Fleetwood Mac came out with their Rumours album in 1977 little did they know how much airplay the tracks would get. Band Members Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Chrisitine McVie all knew that the music was special when they first heard the finished product, but even they were a little caught off guard with the record breaking sales.

The Rumours CD has many great songs for the beginner guitarist to learn. Gold Dust Woman can be pulled off by a single acoustic guitar and the riffs are simple enough to get a feel for in your first pass through the chords.

I kept this tabbed out in a standard tuning so that you will not have to change tuning. If you want to tune the high E to a D for a further effect then I would play it open on all of the chords. Some tabs have in this in a D tuning, but it is not required to do for a single guitar and I wanted to keep it basic so that it will be easy to learn.

If you are a singer then you will really enjoy learning Gold Dust Woman. The tempo is not hard to get uesd to, and you can really ring out some emotions if you want to and improvise vocally at the end for some fun.

Creedance Clearwater Revival had a lot of hit songs in the 1960′s and 70′s and quite a few are a good choice for a beginner guitarist. Bad Moon Rising is known by most people and the classic three chord structure is a lot of fun to play. Getting the hang of the riff should be simple enough when you get down the timing of the D – A – G – D progression.

The chorus is an easy enough G – D – A – G – D riff, and is fun to sing along to. John Fogerty and brother Tom Fogerty did a lot of the songwriting and the Cajun music influence is there from their Louisiana childhood.

There are some fill parts that you can hear on the song, and the tab has the notes written down. The timing can be a little tricky for a beginner, and is not required when your it by yourself, but if you have a friend that plays guitar and wants to jam along, then you try out the licks for yourself.

People really do like to hear this song and is a good choice for any cover band, or anyone who plays by themselves and sings. Bad Moon Rising works just as well for an acoustic guitar as it does for for a full band with electric guitars, bass and drums.

Reggae is the type of music that puts most people into a good mood, with the roots of the popular style coming from Jamaica, most people think of the palm trees, warm water, local herbs and Bob Marley. Learning Jamming is a great introduction to reggae for the begginer guitarist.

The music and lyrics seem to sooth the soul when you first hear reggae, and Bob Marley was the first superstar of this genre, and what put him ahead of everyone else was his ability to take complex situations and make them simple to understand and easy on the ears, this is what is considered to be a trait of the wisest of men, and that keeps the legacy alive of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Learning the timing of reggae is one of the first things you will need to do, and the up and down strumming on the guitar will take a little getting used to, but reggae has many songs to offer and when you put it together with bass lines, drums and percussion it has a beat and timing of it’s own that is fun and entertaining to learn.

Sometimes a song gets a large buzz on the internet before it actually gets released, and the new single from Lifehouse – Halfway Gone, is one of those songs.

The way the song is setup is a great riff for beginner guitarists and it is always nice to stay on top any current music that you can play for yourself or your friends.

With a little bit of effort this should be one those songs that you should pick up easy, but everybody learns at a different pace, and learning to play guitar takes some time, so do not be upset if takes a few times to get a feel for a song, this is the norm for most guitarists.

The chord structure of C#minor – A – E – B is nothing new for the music industry, songs like Message in the Bottle by the Police and More Than A Feeling by Boston are two songs that come into my head, but just because you use a much used guitar riff does not mean that you can not put your own twist on it, and that is what Lifehouse did with this song.

This is the best chord version on the internet right now, and should be able to help you get thru the whole song…….

When the music world first heard that rock and roll legend Robert Plant and country/bluegrass sweetheart Alison Krauss were recording an album together, little could they have known that the single – Please Read The Letter would end up being the grammy award winning Record of the Year for 2009.

The former Led Zeppelin lead singer had released the single earlier with Jimmy Page in 1998, and after reworking the song for the Raising Sand album, the duo of Plant and Krauss have produced a song that is great for beginner guitarists.

The chord progression that is listed below is for the radio and video version of Read The Letter, you can add the other verse from the album if are going to be playing and singing by following the same chord structure.

As with most new songs that you learn, you should play along with the video or CD on your guitar to get a feel of the verses and choruses. Once you know the basic riffs you can improvise a little to add your own texture and flavor to the song.

This really is a basic song and uses some of the most used open chords in standard tuning – Amajor, Emajor and Dmajor, and these are the building blocks of songwriting and guitar playing.

Help I’m Alive by Metric was first recorded as a full sound song with drums and synthesizers, but the acoustic version shows the raw emotion of the hit song, and the haunting melody breaks into a classic hook driven song that is becoming a signature of the band from Canada.

The video shows songwriter Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw performing the song in the studio, and you really get a sense of the emotion that does go into songwriting.

This song at first looks to be in the is in the key of Bb or A#, they are pretty much the same depending on how technical you want to get about it, but when you jam along in the minor pentatonic scale you find that it is actually in the key of G.

To make things simpler, you can put a capo on the third fret and play some open chords to make it less demanding for the beginning guitarist, and also to make it easier if you are going to also be the vocalist.

As a beginner guitarist you should play along to the song until you get a feel of the progression, and then start to add in some of the fill notes as you get familiar with the chord structure. This is a fun song to play once you have it figured out.

When I learn a new song on my guitar I try to get a feel for the riff by playing the chords without the purpose of matching the song note for note, I have found this only frustrates me and can actually make learning harder.

What I try to do is get the timing down of the song first, and worry about getting the actual notes correct as I learn the song on my guitar for the first time.

That is why I chose to do – Let It Be - by the most popular band on the planet – The Beatles . This song was written primarily by Paul McCartney, and once again you can see an example of a world class songwriter that was not afraid to produce a simple song.

Let It Be is a great beginner guiatr song since it deals with the the most popular open chords on the guitar – Cmaj -Fmaj -Am – Gmaj.

There is a lead that you can follow along on with you want – it is in the A minor pentatonic scale, and is a classic example of the sliding minor pentatonic scale that is featured in many rock songs.

There is also a tricky little bridge in the middle that you should learn, as this is a transition part of the song, but with a little practice you should be able to get the riff down.

If you are a singer, this is an excellent song to showcase your voice, and Let It Be is pretty much known worldwide, and should be in any beginner guitarists playlist.

Speaking words of wisdom, let it be
C G Am Am7 F
And in my hour of darkness, She is standing right in front of me
C G F (Hit E note on D string)(Hit open D String) C

Verse 2:

And when the broken hearted people, Living in the world agree
There will be an answer, let it be
C G Am F
But though they may be parted, There is still a chance that they will see
C G F (Hit E note on D string)(Hit open D String) C
There will be an answer, let it be

Chorus:

Am G F C
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be
C G F (Hit E note on D string)(Hit open D String) C
There will be an answer, let it be
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be

When you are a beginning guitarist you need to know the basic open chords of the six-string guitar. People Are Crazy from country singer Billy Currington is a prime example of why. When you see the Chords to People Are Crazy you will notice that they are C – G – Am – F , but when you play it on your guitar you notice it does not sound right, that is because he is using a Capo on the 5th fret, this is a common trick among acoustic guitarists, that allows you to play the most common open chords all the way down the fretboard without having to worry about using barre chords.

In fact when you think about it, when you are using a barre chord, you are actually using your forefinger as a capo, and then forming the open chord structure with you other three fingers.

Put the capo on other frets and play the chords you know, check out the different sounds and you may find yourself wroting your own songs in the way Billy did using a capo.

Billy Currington – People Are Crazy (Capo 5th)

Intro: (C) (G)

(C) (G)
This old man and me, were at the bar and we
(Am) (F)
Were having us some beers and swapping I don’t cares.
(C) (G)
Talking politics, blond and redhead chicks.
(Am) (F)
Old dogs and new tricks and habits we ain’t kicked.

(C) (G)
We talked about God’s grace and all the hell we raised.
(Am) (F)
Then I heard the ole’ man say
(C) (G) (C) (G)
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

(C)
He said “I fought two wars,
(G)
Been married and divorced.”
(Am)
What brings you to Ohio?
(F)
He said “Damned if I know.”
(C) (G)
We talked an hour or two about every girl we knew.
(Am)
What all we put ‘em through.
(F)
Like two ole’ boys will do.

(C)
We pondered life and death
(G)
He lit a cigarette
(Am) (F)
And said “These damn things will kill me yet.”
(C) (G) (C)
But God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

Bridge:

(F) (Em)
Last call, its 2am, I said goodbye to him
(Dm) (G)
I never talked to him again

(C) (G)
Then one sunny day, I saw the old mans face
(Am) (F)
Front page Obituary, he was a millionaire.
(C) (G)
He left his fortune to some guy he barely knew,
(Am) (F)
His kids were mad as hell. But me? I’m doing well.
(C) (G)
And I dropped by today, to just say thanks and pray,
(Am) (F)
And I left a six-pack right there on his grave and I said

(C) (G) (C) (F)
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

(C) (G) (Am) (F)
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

(C) (G) (C)
God is great, beer is good and people are crazy.

Outro: (C) (G)
